MBFWA2014 Alessandra Ambrosio lands on Alex Perry’s runway

With all the social media hype leading up to Alex Perry’s Spring Summer 2014/15 show, Alessandra Ambrosio had made a spectacular entrance and finale to his “Varsity” show.

Alex Perry had created a sophisticated collection of pencil silhouettes, structured and short trumpet skirts and crop tops. Pencil dresses were cut open at the back or featured see-through lace panels at the back. Tea dresses with shimmering beadwork and high impact circle skirts. The theme throughout was leather-effect fabrics with black, navy, cream and orange and prink colour blocking.

It was worth the one hour wait and being squeezed out of the media pit while I propped myself on top of the sub woofer to capture all the glitz and glam. Here are the highlights from Alex Perry’s runway show from my perspective.

Aurelio Costarella MBFWA 2014

Aurelio Costarella summer 14/15 is a modern interpretation of the classic 1920/30’s Parisienne silhouettes inspired by the work of Man Ray and the style of his favourite muses, Kiki de Montparnasse, Tamara de Lempika, Nancy Cunard, Lee Miller and Juliete. Aurelio’s runway show started out with a bang of intense colours, ranging from red, fushsia, violet, citrus, then a series of mint, cobalt, turquoise, then antique, black and gunmetal and finished the show with a palette of classic antique and white. Fabrications include silk chiffon, leather, eyelet lace, intricate beading and embroidery in metal, and graduation of ostrich feathers. Here are the highlights taken from my perspective.

Simple ways of using available light for night time street style

Only 4 more sleeps till I jet off to Sydney for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week #mbfashionweek. I’m so honoured to be representing Boohoo.com again snapping street style; and racing between runway shows in my WhatWouldKarlDo.com T-shirt to capture all the hustle and bustle at Carriageworks. I’m super excited because it’s my first trip to Australian fashion week which is a dream come true. My line up of Australian designer shows I’ll be seeing are Aurelio Costarella, Leroy Nguyen, Gail Sorronda, Karla Spetic, Michael Lo Sordo, Maticevski, UNIF.M, Galanni in a short space of two days! Follow my fashion journey on instagram @heykarenwoo or stay tuned on my blog for updates.

Lately I’ve been obsessing over over-sized cow necks and turtle necks knits ever since Margaret Zhang wore hers at the VAMFF. When Cecylia got changed into a simple yet classic look I instantly fell in love. She is wearing Stella & Minx which is soft and feminine, which can be worn out or in, but in this instance she tucked the turtleneck into her cobalt blue full leather skirt.

Anyway, I setted myself a shooting challenge tonight. I decided not to use off camera flash or Icelight but to use any available light to shoot Cecylia in. It was all about finding the light, and facing Cecylia towards the light. Allow me to explain by scrolling down to read my commentary.

I waited for cars to pass by from both directions to create some backlight and frontlight to light up Cecylia.

I used the illuminating advertising signboards at the Rivoli Cinemas to light up Cecylia’s face. Definitely my favourite series of the night.

Finally, I used the light beaming from the Volvo Car dealership showroom to light up Cecylia.

Why don’t you too challenge yourself and find the light. Happy shooting! xx
