Profoto Lighting Workshop Coming in 9 April 2022 – Who’s In?

One of my most commonly asked questions is always about lighting – “How do I use lights to shoot street style fashion?”

Well, I’ve got great news.

In partnership with Borge’s Imaging, we are excited to present a hands-on Profoto lighting workshop at Photography Studies College.

In this workshop, you will experience a behind the scenes demonstration of my street fashion style and utilising the Profoto B10X and A10 lighting gear with a professional model.

This workshop aims to highlight my professional photography skill and experience in controlling lighting while showing off the versatility, simplicity and power of the Profoto lighting system.

This will take place at Photography Studies College in South Melbourne and pending the Melbourne weather move outdoors to some of the nearby alleyways for a live shoot.

PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2022: Shooting street style with the new Nikkor Z 85 mm

Yay, it’s PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2022!

Armed with my new Nikon Z 85 mm F/1.8 S prime lens, I headed off to Queen Victoria Market with the intention to capture some stylish people against the beautiful golden light.

You know I’m all about the LIGHT!

The sunlight was still harsh around 6:45pm, but it was a good test to see how the Z 85 mm lens would perform under these circumstances.

And girl! The results were impressive. My street style images turned out optimally sharp, the focus was on point, and the bokeh was simply brilliant. More over, the weight of the lens was a lot lighter than I expected, which is a must-have if you are running around.

Perhaps I’ll let you decide… what do you think of the images?

Anyway, it felt amazing to reconnect with everyone tonight, so thanks for the chats, hugs and snaps!

Until next time, stay well and be blessed!

x Karen

Melbourne Fashion Week: Student Collections Runway Day 5

I got the goosebumps watching the Melbourne Fashion Week, student collections runway last Friday night.

THE TALENT WAS NEXT LEVEL.

Most likely the best student fashion design work I’ve seen thus far!!!

The show featured students from Box Hill Institute, Holmesglen, Kangan Institute, RMIT and Whitehouse Institute of Design.

This runway was located underground at MCG’s carpark as the student collections were styled by Stuart Walford.

Massive congratulations to QIN WANG for winning the Student Designer Awards 2021!

Qin drew her inspiration from traditional paper-cutting techniques and handicraft and has created three-dimensional fabric vortexes that appear to whirl around the body. Other pieces in the collection feature gravity-defying layers, constructed using various elements of scaled cutwork as shown below.

Here are the students from each design school in Melbourne:

HOLMESGLEN

Yasuha Miki, Nima Zangmo, Qin Wang, Tatenda Serere, Vaishali Madyala

BOX HILL INSTITUTE

Anna Barrett, Chloe Crawford, Putu Liana Putri Pradnya Paramita, Remi Natylia

KANGAN INSTITUTE

Kai James, Michaela Eddinton, Napaorn Suksawatsak

RMIT UNIVERSITY

Melbourne Fashion Week 2021: Day 2 Street Style Day

Day 2 on the streets and here are my Melbourne Fashion Week streetstyle highlights captured outside Federation Square.

From observation, it looks like sequinned dresses, cut outs and neon coloured suits are trending in Melbourne right now!

Enjoy! x
