Surrounding Light

I met a lovely photography student from RMIT a few days ago who visited my studio and interviewed me personally for his school assignment. He asked me a very good question, “what’s the most important thing to look for when shooting?” I told him that to create powerful story telling images is the way you use your surrounding light. Whether it is natural light (I LOVE shooting subjects in backlight and soft golden light) or using artificial light. Light sets the mood and adds so much dimension to an image.

To give you an idea what I mean, here’s one of my most favourite photo shoots to date with style blogger, Jess Dempsey from What Would Karl Do.

I must finish this post by saying that I’ve been receiving so many gorgeous emails lately from all sorts of people ranging from students, fashion bloggers, fashion clients to magazine/fashion editors from the US! I am deeply humbled by all your enquiries about my work, or wanting to work with me (or assist) and following my fashion work on Instagram. Thank you so much xo

New Yorkers and their Monochrome at NYFW 2014

There is one thing you need to know about New Yorkers. They love their monochrome. As much as they love their colour and all sorts of textures, black and white is their NYC uniform.

Here are the highlights taken during New York Fashion Week.

As per usual, please credit my work by linking the image to my website (www.karen.woo.au) or tagging “@heykarenwoo” to your social media posts. Thank you for sharing x

Double Denim

The most laid back kinda outfit anyone can throw together, the Double Denim look.

When I’m out shooting, I like to wear things that look great and comfortable. It’s got to have pockets so I can put my CF memory cards, comfy pair of sneakers and a light back pack to carry my camera gear. Did I tell you that I packed one pair of Lacoste sneakers to NY Fashion week, and came back with six pairs of shoes where four pairs were all sneakers? My white YSL pumps are definitely one of my favourite pairs as spotted here.
