Day three of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival brings us to Crown Oaks Day (aka Ladies Day). Oaks did not disappoint. The Ladies came in all the feminine glamour that my lens could wish for. Gowns, adoring floral, lace and bright colours, complimented with delicate bows, boaters and head bands, completed impeccable outfits. The seasons finest designer bags paired with killer Valentino rockstuds stole the show, and possibly the flesh of the brave ladies who wore them for hours (the heels that is). And what would ladies day be without the dapper gents who put in as much effort to get that perfect head-to-toe look.
I enjoyed Oaks very much this year. I even took a moment to have a chat to the lovely Bec Hewitt. Bec is a real sweetheart and down-to-earth, which of-course the media doesn’t like to portray. Don’t believe everything you read on the news stand!
Fashion on the fields is quite a step away from my traditional street style photography, but nevertheless I was still in my element, spotting and snapping the most fashionable Race goers having a good time.
Well it’s a wrap from me, that was my final day at the races, and I sincerely want to thank everybody for their support – PR agencies, my photographer buddies for hanging out with me, and all the fantastic people I got to meet and snap along the way. Oh, and thanks for the love regarding my coverage for What Would Karl Do too, I’m glad you are enjoying my take on fashion on the fields.
Lastly but not the least I want to thank the following people:
So here are the shots taken in and out of marquees and my “Birdcage street-style”.
Always Karen xx

As soon as I walked through the doors of the Lexus marquee, I felt right at home. It was really nice to catch up with all the friendly familiar faces that I have befriended over the past two years. The Lexus marquee had a total transformation: a new spacious layout with more windows, and it was three storey high to fit a total of 350 people (additional 60 people from previous years). The marquee was fitted out with recyclable cardboard tubes, flower decorations, The Daily Edited booth where you can get your name embossed onto the Lexus wallet, Attica restaurant & bar, Franklin restaurant and of-course, the new Lexus IS 350 right at the centre.
International model, Jess Gomes is this year’s Lexus Ambassador wearing Carla Zampatti black dress, and a delicate black netting headpiece by Hatmaker. Other celebrities who also made appearances were Margaret Zhang, Kate Waterhouse, Bambi Blyth, Emma Freedman to name a few.
I also want to thank Bared Footwear for my beautiful and super comfortable high heels, and to my incredibly talented friend and milliner, Ezara Jennings for my sparkly lace headpieces.
Hope you enjoy my Derby Day coverage, and I shall see you at the Melbourne Cup Carnival xxx

Coveted online brands NUAN Cashmere and BALLETTONET showcases their collection for the first time together at 494 Collins Street until 30th June.
Last Thursday, VIP guests were treated to an exclusive preview of NUAN Cashmere’s ultra luxe investment pieces made from 100% pure long yarn cashmere; and Ballettonet’s Italian made ballet flats and high end sneakers. It was the first time these two brands were showcased together. In fact (also a fun fact), remember the shoot I did with Jess Dempsey with the gorgeous Ballettonet’s ballet flats designed by Erin Maxwell from Love Shop Share; styled with the black weaved cashmere cardigan (see HERE)? Well, our styled shoot had connected these two brands together and look at where they are today!
Until the end of June 2016, they will be open to public right here:
494 Lt Collins Street Melbourne
MON – WED 10-6PM
THURS 10-7PM
FRI 10-6PM
Get in quick and invest in a beautiful cashmere ensemble and a pair of luxe sneakers. You won’t be disappointed, because I’m wearing the ECO CARDIGAN DUSTER as I’m typing. I can’t tell you how incredibly warm, stylish and divine it is, which is perfect for this chilly Melbourne weather! Even Jess Dempsey is trending it right here.
For more press information, please send your enquiries here, mail@ballettonet.co or info@nuancashmere.com.
