Inside Derby Day Lexus Pavilion 2014

The Lexus Pavilion was a triple-storey marquee themed around “Modern Luxe” which was designed by MIM Design. Their design was expressed by a display of spring pastel colours, green and pink carpeted areas with hundreds of light bulb vases hanging from the ceiling (on second level), also a sky deck rooftop space designed by Jamie Durie. The wait staff had their own custom-designed Country Road ensembles; and you couldn’t miss the new shiny chrome-wrapped Lexus NX sedan which has been turning heads all day inside (and outside peering into) the Lexus Design Pavilion! This wasn’t the first time I’ve seen Lexus custom wrap their cars in chrome, because a month ago I spotted the new chrome-wrapped Lexus RC 350 F Sport 2015 (and it has velvet-wrapped side mirrors too) at New York Fashion Week, and I must add it was fully dope. Yes, you can tell that I love my cars so you can imagine all the excitement when I got invited to attend and snap up the fashionable crowd and action in and around the Lexus design Pavillion!

Amongst the guests were Margaret Zhang from ShinebyThree, Pip Edwards, Kate Waterhouse and Henry Holland. Celebrities also included the real housewives of Melbourne, The Block winners, Jamie Durie, Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson.

I had such a great experience at Lexus so I can’t wait to snap more inside life of Lexus at Melbourne Cup and Oak’s Day. See you all there!

Derby Day 2014 Highlights

It was my first time going to the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, and what better way to experience it with my dear friend and style blogger, Jess Dempsey from What Would Karl Do. It was what I had always anticipated – Celebrity guests (Jennifer Hawkins, Alex Perry, Michael and Lindy Klim, Miss World Australia Courtney Thorp, Neil Perry, Neiman Marcus, Kerry-Anne Kennerley, Margherita Maccapani Missoni), style bloggers (Nicole Warne, Nadia Bartel, Margaret Zhang, Phoebe Montague, Cecylia Kee, Sanchia Peterson), horseracing and fashion. It wasn’t so much about the horses, but what headpiece and outfits the ladies were trending. Today was Derby Day – all to do with black and white. This year’s outfits were a mix of sophistication, texture, mesh, cut outs, patterns and wide leg pants! Headpieces were becoming more like delicate metal head bands or 3d graphical cut outs (famously designed by the clever lady, Danica Erard from Demillinery) than the traditional over-sized hat.

Lastly I would like to thank Lexus Australia, Lavazza Australia and Emirates for giving me the pleasure of experiencing your amazing hospitality and inviting me to snap all the fashionable action in the marquees. Aloha! Meet Aimee Johnson, the beautiful Style Blogger behind Aloha Everybody. What I love about her Style Blog is that she gives practical styling advice for your wardrobe; shares outfit ideas; her opinions on the latest trends; and how to wear or what not to wear with a no nonsense Melbourne lifestyle in mind. I’ve been following her work for a while so it was a huge honour when she contacted me recently to help create a strong street style images for her blog, specifically dedicated to the Melbourne Spring Racing coming up this Saturday. Surrounding Light

I met a lovely photography student from RMIT a few days ago who visited my studio and interviewed me personally for his school assignment. He asked me a very good question, “what’s the most important thing to look for when shooting?” I told him that to create powerful story telling images is the way you use your surrounding light. Whether it is natural light (I LOVE shooting subjects in backlight and soft golden light) or using artificial light. Light sets the mood and adds so much dimension to an image.

To give you an idea what I mean, here’s one of my most favourite photo shoots to date with style blogger, Jess Dempsey from What Would Karl Do.

New Yorkers and their Monochrome at NYFW 2014
