MFW Street Style Highlights 2017

This year, I had the pleasure of teaming up with Melbourne Fashion Week to capture 30 of my favourite street style looks as featured in Vogue Australia.

As most street style shooters would tell you, shooting in day light is ideal for crisper images, but what happens if shows start late, like 6:30pm? Well that’s the interesting challenge. Instead of fearing night light, I embraced all available light like lamp posts or car headlights to light up my subjects, or triggered my off camera flash to create artificial light. The trick is to create some kind of wall where I can bounce the light from, without creating harsh lighting. To be honest, it’s all about experimenting what works best and the type of look you are after. For softer artificial light, you should consider using a diffuser or portable studio lights like the Profoto B1. They give you excellent fashion studio lighting but be prepared to carry it around.

So what challenges do you face when shooting street style at night?
