Grit, Camaraderie & Passion | The Athena Golf Through My Nikon Lens 2025

Two weekends ago, I found myself back at The Athena, surrounded by the energy of elite women golfers, the thrill of competition, and the quiet, unscripted moments that make the game so special. Golf and photography, two of my greatest passions, came together once again, and I couldn’t have asked for a better setting to capture the essence of the tournament, and I brought my hubby in for the ride. He was my second shooter and photo editor for the weekend.

There were so many incredible moments throughout the weekend, too many to count. From the intense focus before a critical shot to the lighthearted camaraderie between players, every moment told a story.

But this isn’t just about golf.

This series is for anyone who appreciates grit, resilience, and passion, whether you’re a golfer, an athlete, a creative, or someone who simply loves witnessing people chase their dreams. It’s about the camaraderie that makes competition more than just winning. It’s about the mental game, the quiet moments of self reflection, and the way sport mirrors life itself. And most importantly, it’s about the beauty in the unscripted moments, the laughter, the fist pumps, the deep breaths before the winning putt.

I hope you find inspiration in these photos, whether you’re out on the green or simply appreciating the art of storytelling through sport.

Thank you team PGA Australia and WPGA Tour for having me!

x Karen

AS SEEN IN: Women’s Golf Magazine 2024

Who would’ve thought I’d GOLF, let alone venture into GOLF PHOTOGRAPHY? I’m still learning the ropes but honestly it’s the best mental and physical sport I’ve come to embrace. It’s truly become a part of who I am! If you have been following me for while, I want to extend my gratitude for being a part of my golfing journey and for perhaps inspiring you to give it a try!

I’m grateful for the mini feature in WOMEN’S GOLF MAGAZINE, a publication dedicated to women into golf where I lean into my experience and learnings and share my top 5 tips for shooting golf tournaments. And, as always, a big thank you to Nikon Australia Pty Ltd and Havas Red AU for recognising and embracing my newfound passion. Their support instils in me the confidence to continue pushing out of my comfort zone and, in my own way, inspiring women to pursue sports photography.

Enjoy reading and exploring a few of my unpublished works.

x Karen

Plant Parent fashion editorial

Ready to raise the bar on parenthood? Start with some green thumb action.

This feature follows a young man who thinks fatherhood is a breeze but soon learns the true meaning of being a cool parent through the art of indoor plant care. His parents give him the ultimate challenge, and he rises to the occasion with style and confidence, mastering the diverse and ever-changing landscape of parenting through his collection of unique and thriving plants.

This is a visual representation of his journey, showcasing his growth and evolution as a PLANT PARENT.

As parents, we know that parenting can be:

  • Fiddleleaf – “fiddly”
  • Dried flowers – “lost”
  • Vines – “Tricky and Entangled”
  • Kangaroo plant – “resilient”
  • Strong of pearls – “cherishable”.

Which plant describes your parenting situ? Would love to hear your story!

Melbourne Fashion Week: Student Collections Runway Day 5

I got the goosebumps watching the Melbourne Fashion Week, student collections runway last Friday night.

THE TALENT WAS NEXT LEVEL.

Most likely the best student fashion design work I’ve seen thus far!!!

The show featured students from Box Hill Institute, Holmesglen, Kangan Institute, RMIT and Whitehouse Institute of Design.

This runway was located underground at MCG’s carpark as the student collections were styled by Stuart Walford.

Massive congratulations to QIN WANG for winning the Student Designer Awards 2021!

Qin drew her inspiration from traditional paper-cutting techniques and handicraft and has created three-dimensional fabric vortexes that appear to whirl around the body. Other pieces in the collection feature gravity-defying layers, constructed using various elements of scaled cutwork as shown below.

Melbourne Fashion Week 2021: Day 2 Street Style Day

Day 2 on the streets and here are my Melbourne Fashion Week streetstyle highlights captured outside Federation Square.

From observation, it looks like sequinned dresses, cut outs and neon coloured suits are trending in Melbourne right now!

Enjoy! x
